Yesterday, on 9th September 2016, progressive rock legend Peter Gabriel unveiled (excuse the pun) his second new single, The Veil, (his first being I’m Amazing which came out on 16th June), ahead of the official release of the up-coming film Snowden which is out in cinemas on 16th September 2016. Snowden, directed by Oliver Stone details the life of Edward Snowden, the man responsible for leaking classified information from the US National Security Agency three years ago. The Veil has elements of his past works, such as his mainstream albums So (1986) and Us (1992).
Peter Gabriel, who spoke to web magazine Team Rock, spoke of the song: “As we become so visible in the digital world and leave an endless trail of data behind us, exactly who has our data and what they do with it becomes increasingly important. Snowden’s revelations shocked the world and made it very clear why we need to have some way to look over those who look over us. With increasing terrorist attacks, security is critical, but not without any accountability or oversight. I was very happy to learn Oliver Stone had decided to make a film about Edward Snowden and believe this is a powerful and inspiring film. Oliver takes his music very seriously and I have always enjoyed collaborating with him and music supervisor Budd Carr.”
The song is available for streaming on YouTube, and Spotify and is available for purchase digitally.
