Since Rocksound announced the winners of the Rocksound Readers Poll, I decided to give my own answers to the questions that they gave…because I love filling out questionnaires and my own opinions (mainly because I read Rocksound haha)
BEST BRITISH BAND –
Feed The Rhino
Perhaps it’s because every time, they come and do a show, they always give it their 100%, even when they are just the support band. Feed The Rhino are the type of band that will catch your attention and make you wonder about them long after the show has finished.
BEST INTERNATIONAL BAND
STEEL PANTHER
A band that’s hilarious and knows how to play their instruments while doing this, what’s not to love?
BEST BRITISH NEWCOMER
BABY GODZILLA
They’ve been around for about 4 years, but they slowly breaking in to the current scene and losing everyone’s minds by doing so. They’ve supported Enter Shikari and Feed The Rhino.
BEST INTERNATIONAL NEWCOMER
FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE
They’ve been around since 2009, but none the less, this band has recently been getting a lot of attention in the UK, and earlier this year, they supported Kataklysm at the Underworld.
WORST BRITISH BAND
MCBUSTED
Half of Busted and Mcfly together? no thanks. For me, I really felt Mcfly were getting somewhere, but then this happened, and it doesn’t really need to happen….
WORST INTERNATIONAL BAND
Black Veil Brides
I tried to enjoy, but couldn’t.
BEST IMPROVED BAND
Crossfaith
Crossfaith has grown a lot since the early days and now have basically dominated the western side of the music world, they played at Knotfest, and many other major festivals.
GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN
Anberlin
Before their last show in London, I last saw them when Hawthorne Heights supported them in 2011. I have loved this band since day 1 , and it was emotional when I went to see their last show. I’ll continue to support them through old albums.
ALBUM OF THE YEAR
Slipknot – .5- The Gray Chapter
I could literally write a book on how much this album has affected me and what it means to me. I could even write about every song. I’m just very proud of the band of how far they have come, it is the best sound , and lyrically i’ve heard from in years, perhaps ever since Vol 3. The content can be felt in the journey of this album, and the emotional sounds you can feel from Corey’s voice. It’s about progression, and this is what I feel that the band is working at. New starts.
GIG OF THE YEAR
Melt- Banana at Heaven, 28/04/14
There have been many great gigs, and i could say my top 10 , but Melt – Banana is definitely one of my favourite gigs this year. They played at Heaven, and it was the right size for a band like Melt-Banana. The chaos from the band and the crowd felt mental, and I had bruises at the end of the night haha
BEST LIVE BAND
Iron Maiden
I saw them for the first time at Sonisphere 2014, and it totally blew me away. Singing every song with Maiden fans just felt surreal. The adrenaline that felt for hours and because of that i couldn’t sleep.
BEST MUSIC VIDEO
Slipknot – Devil In I
Killing the old way , the new start of Slipknot symbolises in this video and it is proper crazy with erm blowing up and ripping faces off.
BEST AT THE INTERNET
Mark Hoppus and Corey Taylor
Both of them are weird and full of dad jokes, and you get embarrassed by them easily…which is great.
BEST FESTIVAL
Sonisphere 2014
I’ve been to Sonisphere twice and each time they always make it fun with great line ups. The atmosphere and the lovely people.
BEST VENUE
The Underworld
I used to dislike The Underworld, but I realised, it depends the type of bands that play there. And when the right type of bands play…it becomes like the most violent chaotic place ever with mosh pits, and sweat and I remember taking photos of Sick of it all, and it was so hot , my camera lens steamed up.
BEST ROCKSOUND COVER
Slipknot feature Cover
Congrats to the photographer who took this photo as this is better than most magazine covers i’ve seen of Slipknot, also kudos to Rocksound writers who wrote a brilliant features article on Slipknot. It was a great and emotional read.
